Manuscript chart. ✎✓ RE-READ AT FULL RESOLUTION 2026-09-24 (n21). Title verbatim: **'Plano del Puerto del **Cap.n** Bodega descubierto con la Goleta "Sonora" el día **23 de 8bre**'** — ✎ the port is named for the CAPTAIN (matching AGI MP-MEXICO,582, 'Plano del puerto del Capitán Bodega'); *8bre* is the period abbreviation for octubre. ⚠⚠ **The leaf reads 23 — two clear glyphs, confirmed at 6752px — but the event was the 3rd.** Bodega entered the port on 3 Oct 1775 on four independent primary witnesses (AMN Ms.0622 f.33v; AGI ESTADO,20,N.21; AGI ESTADO,38A,N.5; and Bodega's own daily navigation table, which repeats an identical observed position on the 3rd and 4th — a ship at anchor). **So the '2' is an error somewhere in the copy chain, not a different date**; it can be localised by checking AGI MP-MEXICO,582 and its Library of Congress twin. ⭐⭐ The enclosed water is labelled **'Mar ó Río'** — in 1775 the surveyors did not establish whether it was sea or river. ⚠ **Which bay this is, is an open question.** Tovell identifies Punta del Cordón and Punta de las Arenas as Tomales Bluff and Sand Point, which would make the 1775 'Puerto del Capitán Bodega' **Tomales Bay**, not Bodega Bay; Zayas letters the name at Bodega Bay in 1793. The 1 legua / 300 varas / 38°18' figures on this leaf are the hard constraints for testing any identification. Labeled 'Provincial State Papers, Benicia, Miscellaneous, 1770–1821'. Orig. pag. 465.

Correction to this entry.
The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
