- Previously read author: 'José de Ávila'; summary: 'Invoice for the Monterey presidio incl. costs to San Blas, $1,427. Orig. pp.128–133.'. Leaf n342 (Savage stamp '336'), third and last entry, verbatim: "+1791 = Abril 15 = México / José de Arvide / — / Importa la fact.ª p.ª el Pres.o de Monterey, incluidos los gastos hasta S. Blas. $ 8427. / pp 128-33." AUTHOR WRONG: at 10x the underlined name is unambiguously "Arvide" (A-r-v-i-d-e, with a clear medial d-ascender and a terminal e), not "Ávila" — there is no l-ascender and the word does not end in a. SUMMARY WRONG on the sum: the leaf reads "$ 8427" (leading 8 formed exactly like the 8s in '128-33' and '16158' on the same leaf); the catalogue's "$1,427" is not supported — there is no 1 in the figure. Place (México), date (15 Apr 1791), orig pp.128-33 and stamp 336 are correct; no recipient named. Omissions OK: all three entries on n342 are catalogued (d489, d490, d491).
The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
