Criminal causa — death of an India at San Gabriel. Ortega (24 Sep 1779) ordered Sargto Mariano Carrillo, with 2nd alcalde José Mª Verdugo & Salvador Caroaga[?], to San Gabriel to take testimony on the death of the india Gregoria, found beaten/whipped to death two days before; soldado Ignacio Alvarado was accused (by Ignacio María) of killing her, and cabo José Ignacio Olivera jailed him.
