Savage's entry in full: heading “Hermenegildo Sal – á Gob.r Arrillaga – Abandono de Bodega”; body “Le dice que **entendiendo** que no se efectuará el establecim.to del puerto de Bodega, ha aplicado á los usos del presidio de S.n Fr.co varios artículos que se habían destinado p.a Bodega.” ⚠ Two things follow. (1) There are NO quotation marks anywhere in this entry: every word is Savage's reported speech, so “no se efectuará el establecimiento del puerto de Bodega” is not a quotation from Sal. (2) *Entendiendo* — Sal is acting on his own UNDERSTANDING that the establishment will not happen, not relaying a decision. This entry records no order of abandonment; it records a commandant reallocating stores because he has concluded nothing further is coming. Counterpart to Doc 515. Orig. pp.332–337.
