Investigation into the death of P. Fr. Andrés Quintana (Mission Santa Cruz, morning of 12 Oct 1812). The *diligencias* (begun 14th, concluded 22nd) found *'no hay indicios de que hubiese violencia en la muerte repentina del Padre'* — declared a natural sudden death, the padre long gravely ill. ⚠ Historically this is the celebrated Quintana case: reopened in 1814, the death was revealed to have been a MURDER by neophytes (who had concealed it). This document is the initial (mistaken) 'natural death' finding — a key primary source for the cover-up. Resolved in Doc 177: the 5 neophyte murderers (Lino, Antonino, Vicente, Saturnino & Fulgencio[?]) were sentenced 10 Mar 1816 to 200 lashes + presidio. Orig. pp.694–736
