Provincial State Papers, Benicia (Military), tomo XL–LII · BANC MSS C-A 17, document 262

'Sobre canje de prisioneros con Bouchard; pena á Molina; desagrado con el Tte. Ignacio Martínez.' Of the supposed 3 prisoners the enemy claimed, only one (Molina) was actually exchanged; suspecting Molina may have gone over to Bouchard voluntarily, Solá sentences him to 6 yrs presidio in chains (ración, no pay) + 100 public lashes, the company & vecindario assembled, the sentence read aloud 'para escarmiento.' Orders the 20 Monterey soldiers back; voices displeasure with Tte. Ignacio Martínez for his tardiness; lookouts to track the enemy's course. Orig. pp.384
