Dep. State Papers, Benicia (Military), tomo LIII–LXVIII · BANC MSS C-A 18, document 15

Neophyte Fabio stabbed & killed his wife Joviniana (2 neck, 1 back, 1 arm wounds). Defender pleads adultery + provocation (she attacked him w/ knife) and that Fabio is barely Christianized. Fiscal's dictamen treats minimal Christianization as mitigation — baptized 6–7 yrs, never confessed, 'sin ninguna emoción en las cosas de Nuestra Sagrada religión,' ignorant he could appeal to justice → asks 5 yrs presidio public works, removed from area (not death)
