Causa vs José Lucino (19), neófito of San José, for killing the foreigner 'Rin' — an American, the blacksmith of San José pueblo, who had gone out hunting beaver/otter (castores): Lucino lassoed him with his reata, dragged and killed him, stripped him, with accomplices Victorino & José Colosanes. Lucino's stated motive: he greeted the American 'amar á Dios,' and the American replied 'Indianos mal,' enraging him. The fiscal demands Lucino be shot (pasado por las armas) AND that 10 Indians from each mission be imprisoned as a warning ('escarmiento')
