Dep. State Papers, Benicia (Military), tomo LIII–LXVIII · BANC MSS C-A 18, document 71

Commissioned to investigate possible *sublevación* in the San Luis, San Miguel, San Antonio & Soledad missions during the 1824 Chumash Revolt; Fr. Luis Martínez & the escort cabo assure him no sign of disloyalty — the San Luis Indians were solicited by the 'Purísimeños' [the Purísima rebels] but refused. Embeds Vallejo's address to the neophytes (praises their steadfastness, threatens 'providencias con fuego y sangre' if they revolt) + his confiscation of all Indian weapons and order that no Indian keep arms at home
