The Solís-revolt conspiracy sumaria (June–Aug 1829)

Dep. State Papers, Benicia (Military), tomo LXIX–LXXVII · BANC MSS C-A 19, document 20

The Solís-revolt conspiracy sumaria (June–Aug 1829). Fernández del Campo reports (18–21 Jun) that cabo Mariano Pequero, artilleryman Pedro Guerrero (leaf reads Pedro on both n16 and n18, verified 2026-09-02) & cavalry-soldier Juan Lisaldi revealed a conspiracy 'que debía ser dirigida por el presidiario Sargto Solís' against the territorial chief (Echeandía) and all the officers, to put the offices 'en manos de hijos de la tierra.' The plan (a junta): seize the artillery cuartel, casa-mata, castillo & other key points of Monterey, assault set for the night of the 22nd. ⭐ Alférez M. G. Vallejo, asked to continue the sumaria (8 Jul), recused himself — because he was commanding the very company accused of the plot, and as habilitado; cadet Raymundo Estrada brought from SF (11 Aug) to continue, but Fernández del Campo declined to re-depose before him, and 'aquí queda trunco el asunto' (the investigation breaks off — Solís launched the actual revolt that November). Escribano artilleryman Petronilo Ríos; Sargto 2º Andrés Cervantes named. The documentary core of the 1829 Solís revolt. Orig. pp.578–598.
