Began as alférez in Cal. 21 Dec 1824 (Monterey company → SB Aug 1827–Feb 1828); prior México service in the Regimiento de Dragones de Tlalnepantla, retired 10 Dec 1821 as Alf. de Urbanos. Notable commissions: (1) 21 July 1828 — commissioned by the SB Cmdt. with 20 men 'p[ar]a la pacificación de los indios de la Misión de San Fernando,' captured the cabecillas and brought them prisoner to SB; (2) 19 Jan 1828 — sent with 2 soldiers to the Sierra de Najalayegua[?] 'p[ar]a perseguir al indio Valerio, que hizo temer por sus asesinatos y robos, y logró cogerlo herido de un balazo, de cuyas resultas murió luego' — the pursuit & killing of the fugitive Indian Valerio (⚠️ *almost certainly* the noted fugitive Chumash neophyte Valerio of the SB back-country — dates his death to early 1828; verify against the SB-mission/Chumash record); (3) the San Blas veteran-infantry piquete July 1826–May 1827; (4) [n77, cited pp.399–400] 1 Jan–14 Apr 1830 — 'estuvo mandando un piquete de la Comp.a de Caball.a permanente del presidio de San Diego de 18 hombres… p[ar]a la persecución de Solís y cómplices' by order of the Cmdt. Gen. of the Territory (a Solís-revolt suppression command; ⚠️ the SD-cavalry detail is unusual for an artillery officer — the 'Y día…' continuation reads as Pliego's but the page jump to 399–400 leaves a slight chance it is a separate fragment).
