Departmental State Papers, Los Angeles, tomo Prefecturas y Juzgados I–IV · BANC MSS C-A 34, document 1321

transcribes Carrillo's campaign parte — the 36-man party set out 3 a.m. 23 May, tracked the raiders (who had a 4-day start with ~3,000 head) north; at 8 a.m. on 24 May reached 'el parage llamado ojo de agua de la Meza' (✎✓ full-res 2026-07-09: 'de la / meza' across the line-break — NOT 'del Rincón'/'Rancón'), found the fresh trail & dropped loads; just before sunset the rearguard was surprised 'en el punto llamado agua de Ramón' (✎✓ same name as Leandri's parte — the two partes AGREE on the surprise-point), 'se componía de 20 hombres todos rifleros' (✎✓ the digit SETTLED = 20 at 1.8× — matching Doc 1308's 20 US-citizen rearguard exactly), who 'hicieron una fuga tan precipitada' abandoning gear & 'como 500 reses muertas de hambre y sed'; not pursued further 'por el mal estado de la Caballada y falta de víveres' (= the earlier sampling read (E2)) (doc pp.492-498)
