MAJOR, marked 'O'. 'Fbro 29. = Sobre caballada mesteña' [1816]. The Alcalde has reported the damage the wild horse herd does to the pastures and proposed building two large corrals to gather it, separating what is fit and killing the rest as harmful to the pastures, on which the comisionado with the Alcalde, Regidores and vecindario assembled may resolve what is to the benefit of all. The Alcalde had thought to build a single corral of fifty to sixty varas with forty vecinos, and Sola has shown him it will be more convenient to build two, 'y q.e cada uno no baje de 100 varas de largo'. To help the vecindario in these operations he has resolved 'q.e pasen del presidio de S. Fran.co quince indios de los presos q.e estan alli', with whom and the vecinos the corrals can be made with the required firmeza, all the vecinos bearing their maintenance. José M.a Martinez and Plácido wish to sow maize and are to be summoned in his name; and the vecinos who bring the fifteen Indians from the presidio will deliver the enclosure to Tte. D. Luis Argüello.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
