the Zacatecan friars' formal *parecer* AGAINST secularization (answering Figueroa's 4 questions, cf. Doc 37): (1) of his missions only San Francisco Solano nears the 10-yr threshold of the 13 Sep 1813 law; (2) ⭐⭐⭐ none can yet be secularized — the Cortes legislated 'sin conocimiento… del carácter é ignorancia de estos infelices indígenas'; the neophytes are like children ('no tienen ni más medida ni más padre que el Religioso'), needing charity + vigilance; if unfortunately emancipated they'd revert — 'se verían desnudos como si no hubieran salido de la gentilidad'; catalogues their 'vicios' (drunkenness; night dances 'que horrorizan'); (3) ⭐⭐⭐ the missions are communities whose goods are 'del fruto de… los mismos individuos que las habitan' (neophyte property — echoes Echeandía/Figueroa) yet the neophytes cannot manage them; (4) obstacles. The church/Zacatecan anti-secularization position — completes the 1833 secularization-consultation triad (Echeandía pro Doc 32 · Figueroa gradualist Doc 37 · García Diego con Doc 38) → secularization spine
