Nicolás Soler & Gov. Pedro Fages → Diego González — military discipline

State Papers, Sacramento, tomo I · BANC MSS C-A 54, document 124

Nicolás Soler & Gov. Pedro Fages → Diego González — military discipline. — (1) Every party leaving the presidio/port to march well-escorted. (2) ⭐⭐ Cmdt.-Gen.'s order (via Fages): the officers & troops behave with 'una libertad vecina muy perjudicial por los desórdenes escandalosos en que incurren con las indias cristianas y gentiles' — circulate a *repressive* order with grave penalties, 'nada disimule en este punto.' (3) The settlement-of-sailors policy from the Reglamento (Art. 2, tít. 3 — fill vacancies from ship crews; admit voluntary settlers). ⭐ Spanish command's own admission of soldiers' sexual abuse of Indian women — significant for indigenous/social history. → the Indian-raiding dossier, social history.

Correction to this entry.
The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
