officer-promotion *ternas* (incl. Sal's). — Romeu 1791 (SF alférez: Carrillo, Pérez Fernández, Amador — 'los 3 son dignos, pero Carrillo es mas inteligente en papeles'); Arrillaga 1796 (Loreto teniente: Cota, Pérez Fernández, Bernal); ⭐⭐ Borica, 1 Feb 1795 — terna for the Monterey teniente post (vacant by León Parrilla's 'incapacidad absoluta'): proposes Hermenegildo Sal first (alférez, '12 años 10 meses 18 días… los 2 meses y 10 días de Sargento'), then Pablo Grijalva. The terna behind Sal's 27 Oct 1795 teniente commission. → the Sal papers (⚠️ '2 mo 10 days as sgt' implies his alférez date was ~late Jul 1782, not 29 May — reconcile with Doc III-2).
