[2nd copy of Doc 97, in Spanish] Wrangel rebuts Capt. Beechey's published charge (in his *Blossom* voyage, 1826–27) that the Russians poach otter off California as 'sin sombra de verdad'; blames other (Anglo-American) foreigners for exterminating the sea-mammals of the Channel Islands & Farallones; welcomes friendly correspondence. ⭐ this is a Spanish translation which Savage notes was made from a Russian-language original present in the tomo at pp. 117–120 — i.e. independent of the suspect Ivan-Petroff English of Doc 97 (the Petroff-translation reliability question); a non-Petroff witness to Wrangel's wording (paired with Figueroa's Spanish reply, Doc 465). ⚠ the 2026-07-06 verify-pass thought the Russian original 'absent' (true at Doc 97's leaf) — it survives (as a Savage note) here in Tomo XIX.
