Leaf heading verbatim: 1823. S. Franco / Ygo Martinez al Gefe. S. Luis A. Arguello. Entry verbatim: Abril 1o. Da parte haber fondeado a las 11 del dia en este Puerto el Bergn Yngs Juan Begg, en el mismo ofo participa haber Caido a las Cercanias del Rancho de S Pedro el Indio ladron Ponponio. Gloss: the English brig Juan Begg anchored at 11 in the morning; the same oficio reports that the Indian robber Ponponio (Savage spells it with two n, the outlaw usually written Pomponio) had come down upon the neighbourhood of the Rancho de San Pedro. The sense of Caido a is raided rather than captured, since he was still at large.

To cite this catalogue entry itself, use https://archivesofcalifornia.com/record/ca56/ca56-d487.htmlThe originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
