Superior Government State Papers, Benicia, tomo XIX–XXI · BANC MSS C-A 58, document 112

Previously uncatalogued — recovered by the 2026-08-27 coverage audit: the document lay inside the declared span of a grouped entry covering n89-n100, which had passed every completeness check while concealing it. Heading verbatim: '+ 1838. Junio 30. Mejº. / Pesado. / Decreto sobre division de los Deptos en dos secciones, formando Califª parte de una de estas, y nombrando sus Diputados pª el bienio proxº. en el 1º domingo de Oct. de 38. p. 290.' [= Decree dividing the departments into two sections, California forming part of one of them, with deputies to be named for the coming biennium on the first Sunday of October 1838] The companion decree of the same date. Savage's line states that the departments are divided into two sections, that California forms part of one of these, and that their deputies are to be named for the coming biennium on the first Sunday of October 1838. This bears directly on California's representation under the centralist regime. I report only what the abstract line says; the leaf does not state which section California fell into.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
