THE PASQUÍN (LIBELOUS PLACARD) AFFAIR: declares having discovered a pasquín (placard) posted on a pillar of the corridor where the Juzgado office is, on the morning of 30 March as he went to his duties; recogió el pasquín & guardó it to deliver to Juez [Pedro] Carrillo, against whom (se supone) it was written; the pasquín says that 'la fuerza bruta reemplaza la justicia en California' and that 'el dicho de un indio basta para condenar á los vendedores de aguardiente á que paguen una fuerte multa ó sufran de 3 hasta 6 meses de prisión'; that the pueblo no goza el derecho de nombrar sus Alcaldes y que el Gobierno se lo reserva, 'por lo que tan viles son los que admiten estos nombramientos como el déspota el que los dirige' — ⭐⭐ an anonymous placard denouncing military-govt 'brute force,' the Indian-testimony liquor law, and appointed (vs elected) alcaldes as despotism
