*Declaraciones sobre muerte de un Gentil* — the death-in-custody of the gentile Choychi (from near San Luis) in the Monterey guardhouse: held 22 days, he seized a bayoneted musket and wounded soldier Marín Quesadas in the chest; soldier Marín clubbed him on the head & he died ~1½ hrs later, foaming blood. Witness depositions (cabos Antonio Yorba & Aniceto Soler, soldiers Narciso Forés[?], Juan Pinto, Juan Jiménez, Quesadas). ⭐ Surgeon Pablo Soler's testimony: Choychi had two ribs fractured when brought from San Luis (i.e. injured at capture) and died more from the chest contusion than the head blow
