Heading: 'Retardo de su salida por la neblina'. Verbatim (English, Savage's copy): 'Sir: I have received yours of the 27th & am very sorry that I have been so importunate as to give you any reason for complaint, by not having sailed to day'... 'the thick fog, which obscured the mouth of the harbour, which made it evidently dangerous to attempt getting out of this port'... 'I am however ready for sea, & shall certainly sail as soon as the wind and weather will permit'. Savage adds: '(A la página siguiente, vuelta, se encuentra la traduccion al castellano de la antº carta.)' — the Spanish translation stands in the original tomo but Savage did not copy it. Rowan = master/supercargo of the American ship Eliza at S. Francisco.
