Provincial State Papers, tomo XVIII · BANC MSS C-A 11, document 415

★ BATTERY OF YERBA BUENA DESTROYED / USELESS — storm of Nov 26 destroyed palisade of Battery of Yerba Buena (fascine bundles with leather ties rotted, wind blew down); Fort San Joaquín in deplorable state; cannon wheels rotten; must maneuver with great caution. 'Experience has made known the uselessness of the Battery of Yerba Buena in the site where it is, because ships can enter, anchor, and leave without being harassed' — engineer D. Alberto de Córdova should have known; if moved, better on loma adjacent to Fondeadero; moving artillery requires supply ships, by land very difficult and costly. pp. 885–8
