Jailbreak — the 'Peacock' prisoners escape. The 4 foreigners taken from the Anglo-American brig 'Peacock' + the convict José Botiller broke out of the San Diego jail (cut the roof beams, rappelled on a leather rope), stole the flat-bottomed barge from Punta de Guijarros, and fled to the embarcadero to reach a 3-masted ship sighted off San Juan Capistrano (heading between San Clemente & Sta Catalina). Cabo Antonio Guillén + 4 sent to recover at least the barge.
