'Establecimiento ruso' — three starving Russian deserters from Kuskov's Fort Ross. A little flag was sighted on the high hill across the bay (5 Dec); the launch was sent and brought back three Russians found on the beach 'en la última miseria,' dying of hunger. They declared they had deserted 'del establecimiento ruso… más arriba de Bodega' (Fort Ross) for the great hunger there; that there was no ship but one beached; *'que su Comandante Coscof [Kuskov] trabaja de duro en fábrica; que ya tienen cuatro casas grandes; pero no saben… cuál será el motivo de establecerse allí.'* Primary account of Fort Ross's first months. Converges w/ C-A 12 (Kuskov/Eayrs), C-A 13 (RAC parlamentario), C-A 55 (Kuskov supply). Orig. pp.508–9
