The Solís-revolt sumaria (declarations & confessions). Echeandía forwards declarations by Juan B. Alvarado, José de Jesús Vallejo & José Castro, all naming J. Mª Herrera as the revolt's promoter / author of the Plan. Confessions of the accused (cabo Andrés de León, 21, owns his signature on the Plan but calls it Vaquero's work) narrate the night of the rising at Monterey: Solís named Mariano Vaquero sergeant/artillery commander; at 2 AM Vaquero woke the troops crying 'el enemigo está encima,' and the rebels (Vaquero, Raimundo de la Torre, Pablo Vejar, Prudencio & Estevan Espinosa, Juan Butron, Leonardo Arceo, José Rosas…) arrested the officers — Alf. M. G. Vallejo, Subtte. Juan José Rocha, Comisario Manuel Jimeno Casarín, sargto Andrés Cervantes — and jailed them; they also seized J. B. Alvarado & José Castro (⚠️ so the young Californios were here *victims* of the rebels, though suspected of anti-Echeandía agitation a year later — Doc 96); a party rode to San Carlos for the Alcalde (not found). Vaquero planned a forced 10% commercial contribution (~$1,000) to buy arms and flee by ship. ⭐⭐⭐ Petronilo Ríos confessed he *wrote* the Plan from Herrera's *dictation* (15 Nov), read 'á Solís y á algunos extranjeros q[u]e allí estaban' before the troops. Joaquín Solís's own confession (16 Nov; age 37, b. Huejotzingo, Puebla; a convict deported for public works) deflects authorship to Herrera, claiming he was deceived into thinking the document was a petition to the Comandante General, not a Plan; he took $1,006 of municipal funds. ⭐⭐⭐ Named foreign-resident circle around Herrera (n173): 'los extranjeros q[u]e estaban con Herrera eran Guillermo (William) Hartnell, David Spence, Esteban (Stephen) Anderson, J. Mecala[?] (= McCulloch?), Abel Stearns y oficiales de buques balleneros.' The missions gave the rebels forced 'voluntary' contributions (San Luis Obispo, Purísima, Santa Inés; later Santa Cruz $100, San José $200, San Juan Bautista $40); friars José Sánchez (briefly named troop commander) and Vicente Sarría also figure (Sarría 'de indulto' at Monterey). ⚠️ Foreigners & missions repeatedly placed at the revolt's core (cf. the Plan's Art. 8 + the 'revolución por España' framing). ⭐ A later confession denies knowing whether Solís had any conversation with Fr. Martínez 'sobre el pronunciamiento por España' (the friar-conspiracy probe). ⚠️ Petronilo Ríos's story evolved — his Nov-1829 declaration (he *wrote* the Plan from Herrera's dictation) softened by Apr 1830 to merely signing it 'porque se le obligó' (the draft in Vaquero's hand). The rank-and-file confessions (Espinosa, Rosas, Aces…) uniformly disclaim involvement and agree the revolt's origin was unpaid wages. Solís's formal confession before the consejo de guerra (21 Apr 1830, defender Tte. Manuel Ibarra) re-narrates the rising, names foreign merchant Juan (John) Cooper & '[Simón] Bautista' as witnesses, and claims he protected Alf. Vallejo when Arenas wanted to kill him 'como un perro'; Solís surrendered under the April indulto to Alf. Francisco Pacheco. The remaining defendant confessions (Prudencio Espinosa, Pablo Vejar, Melitón Soto [the revolt's courier of the Plan to the ayuntamientos & diputados for $30], Máximo Guerra [a Chilean artilleryman, 31]…) repeat the arrests + unpaid-wages motive; a lista de presos names the 14 (Solís, R. de la Torre, Máximo Guerra, Melitón Soto, Vaquero, Antonio Guevara, Vejar, Ignacio Lara, Serapio Escamilla, Victorino & Gonzalo Altamirano, Leonardo Aces, Inés Solano, Gabriel de la Torre). ⭐⭐⭐ The counter-revolution (n195): the Alcalde led armed foreigners gathered at John Cooper's house + Juan B. Alvarado + vecinos to retake the Monterey artillery barracks and arrest Vaquero & Cervantes — the foreign community as *armed suppressors* of the revolt (complicating the 'extranjeros con Herrera' picture). ⭐ Herrera's plot is said to have counted on Capt. Miguel González, a surgeon (Cobata[?]), and Diputado Vicente Sánchez (cf. Docs 143–144). ⚠️ retake scans n187 (p.183) & n193 (p.188); printed page = scan − 5 from n194. ⭐⭐⭐ David Spence's deposition (comerciante, 23 June 1830) is the one clearly-deposed foreigner: Herrera summoned him, another ship captain & Stephen Anderson to his house, read them the Plan & asked their opinion (some answered 'está bueno' out of courtesy; Solís present as signer) — concrete *documented* foreign involvement. ⚠️ The Hartnell/Anderson/Stearns/McCulloch circle was *named* in Solís's confession (n173), but only Spence's own deposition appears here (don't over-claim the others deposed). The proceso also appends Solís's actual revolt-period orders as evidence (n208) — incl. the 28 Nov salute order to Cabo Joaquín Piña (Mis.n Dolores): three artillery discharges (on entry, on the Plan's approval, on the troops' retirement) — the primary document behind Expanded Entry A. A deposition at n204 also explains Art. 8's pro-Spanish addition was inserted at the request of Spaniards fearing the proceedings. ⚠️ Scans n197–n208 read at sample leaves (key findings captured, not every leaf transcribed — completeness pass pending). The 'revolución por España' autos follow (Doc 149). Orig. pp.162–203.
