Verbatim heading: '1833 Feb. 26. Mont. / Genl. Figueroa - al Comandte de Sta Barb.a / Medidas contra los Nuevo-Mexicos, ladrones de Ganado, y pa. rescatar todo el Robado.' Gloss: Figueroa orders the Santa Barbara commander to mount the punitive expedition. Substance: to destroy a gathering of New Mexicans formed in the Tulares with designs prejudicial to the private interests of this territory, he has ordered a party of soldiers of that presidio and citizens of the pueblo of Los Angeles to go out. On receipt of the order the commander will arrange that Alfz. Dn. Damaso Ant.o Rodriguez with 15 men of the cavalry company proceed to the pueblo of Los Angeles, where he will begin to act in conformity with the attached instructions; he will see that the said troop goes well armed and amply munitioned so that in case of need they can assist the citizens who are to accompany them; all to be carried out with the greatest secrecy and speed so that it may have the best effect. The document begins on n434 and runs onto n435, where it is immediately followed (after a row of four crosses) by the separate Instrucciones for Rodriguez. Anchored on a gap leaf, so a row is emitted here; the page cite lies beyond the leaves in this batch. [orig cite: not given on the leaves read; the cite falls after the attached Instrucciones, beyond n434 (surrounding items in this tomo run pp. 485-502); corner: Savage tomo LXXVI p. 44]
