Spans n479-n480. 'Sobre presidarios' — the plan to settle the convicts on Santa Rosa Island. The habilitado has no funds, so no horses, saddles or tools unless government supplies them in advance; even on short rations the convicts 'necesitarán ántes de recoger cosecha de 600 á 700 fanegas de semillas, y ¿de donde se sacarán?'; the missions are short of all grain and the small garrison is hard to sustain. Cattle from the rancho de San Julián, but that is the Sta Bárbara company's and must be paid for. Fears the María Ester's captain will refuse to carry them. If they go, 'nombraré de entre ellos mismos uno ó mas que les administren justicia, y cuiden de su gobierno económico.' Savage's gloss: '(Isla de Santa Rosa, frente al puerto de S.ta Bárb.a)'.
