Leaf read: 168036074_80_8_2 n340 (printed stamp '340', hand '115.'). The leaf carries TWO documents. Doc 1: '+ 1816 = Enero 25 = Carmelo. / Sola al mismo P. Martinez ... sería lo mismo que "entregarle la Iglesia á Lutero" ... pp - 304 = 305.' Doc 2 (magnified to confirm): '+ 1816 = Febrero 16 = (Monterey.) / Sola al R. P. Prefecto. ... pp 305 = 7.' RECIPIENT = WRONG: the catalogue gives 'P. Luis Antonio Martínez / P. Presidente Payeras'. The first half is right; the second contradicts the leaf, which reads 'R. P. Prefecto' and names nobody. (Corroborating, though this is my inference from standard chronology, not from the leaf: in Feb 1816 the Comisario Prefecto was Vicente Francisco de Sarría; Payeras was Padre Presidente, a different office, and did not become Prefecto until 1819.) DATE = PARTIAL: 1816-01-25 with date_confidence 'exact' and granularity 'item', but the record actually spans two letters, 25 Jan and 16 Feb 1816; the February date is nowhere recorded. SAVAGE_PAGE = WRONG: 'B-304–307' merely repeats orig_page; the leaf's own hand number is '115' (stamp 340), consistent with the n−225 B-series I verified at n226/n243/n244. SUMMARY = WRONG: the catalogue says the postscript reports 'el Capitán, 2 pilotos y 13 hombres'; the leaf reads verbatim (magnified) 'el Capitan, dos pilotos y 15 hombres que tripulaban la mencionada Goleta Americana.' The summary also drops doc 2's request for maize and the named Spanish captain-and-master Juan Salvador Aspiroz. Author ('Sola', bracketed unnecessarily since the leaf names him), place ('Carmelo' / '(Monterey.)') and orig_page (304-305 + 305-307 = 304-307) are correct. OMISSIONS graded OK because no document on the leaf is wholly uncatalogued — doc 2's substance does appear inside this record's summary — the merge is scored under date instead, to avoid counting one defect twice.

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
