Magnified, the leaf reads verbatim: 'Mayo 8 — Q.e Alferez de la Guerra se queja de q.e se ha opuesto á pagar derechos de 2 barriles mescal q.e introdujo — p. 681 —'. The catalogue renders it 'El Alférez de la Guerra se queja de que le hacen pagar derechos por 2 barriles de mescal que introdujo'. This inverts the transaction: the leaf records a complaint that the addressee HAS REFUSED to pay the duties ('se ha opuesto á pagar'), the catalogue a complaint that duties are BEING EXACTED ('le hacen pagar'). The complainant, the goods and the quantity are right; the fiscal fact is reversed. OMISSIONS = OK: six entries on the leaf (Marzo 26, Abril 14, '30', Mayo 8 to Roca, Mayo 8 to Sánchez, '9') are covered by docs 753-758.
