How to cite this document
Arrillaga to [Rodríguez], Loreto, 1803-03-09, Provincial Records, XII, 62, Archives of California, C-A 26, Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley.Cite the document by series, tomo and original tomo page, as the literature does; the C-A number locates it in the repository. To cite this catalogue entry itself, use https://archivesofcalifornia.com/record/ca26/ca26-d917.htmlCorrection to this entry.
- Previously read savage_page: 'B-62'. Leaf read: 168036074_80_8_2 n244. SAVAGE_PAGE = WRONG. The leaf's top right carries printed stamp '244' and, beneath it, Savage's own hand-written '19.' (magnified). The catalogue records 'B-62', which is simply orig_page 62 with a 'B-' prefix — the original tomo page, not the copyist's page. I verified the B-series pagination directly: n226 is hand-numbered '1.' under the heading '+ 1800 = Feb.o 8 = Loreto. — / Gobernador Interino Arrillaga á José Font.', n240 is '15', n242 '17', n243 '18', n244 '19' — i.e. hand page = n − 225 exactly. The defect is systematic, not local: every ca26 record from doc 834 (n226, 'B-1') onward carries savage_page = 'B-' + orig_page, so ~450 records in this volume have a savage_page that is a duplicate of the original-tomo page rather than a read value. The correct value here is 19 (stamp 244). Everything else checks: author/recipient/place come from the heading at the foot of n242, read verbatim as '+ 1802. - Loreto (Baja Cal.) / Arrillaga á Manuel Rodriguez en San Diego.'; the year 1803 is set by the '+ 1803.' marker on n243; the entry reads '+ Marzo 9. (3 doc.) p. 62. / Recibe cuentas de fondos / " Cuentas de Correos. / " hojas de servicio.', matching date, orig_page, doc count and summary. OMISSIONS = OK: the leaf's continuation plus four entries are covered by docs 916-920.
The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
