Verbatim heading (Savage, underlined, leaf n13): 'Sin fha, de año de mes y sin direccion / Sin Firma'. English gloss: 'No date, of year or month, and no address / No signature.' A separately headed Savage entry, distinct from the Loreto entry that closes above it on n12 at 'p. 41 - 2.' SUBSTANCE: a truncated appeal on the destitution of the Baja California frontier, copied in the first person and closed by Savage with a quotation mark. It opens 'El funesto cuadro que delinean las espinosas circunstancias que nos rodean por todas partes son ciertos preruncios del golpe fatal que amaga la angustiada pequeñez de esta Provª' and urges the addressee to cooperate 'por todos derechos y por la Ley' to avert it. It argues that Baja California, 'la que en otro tiempo generosa descubrió francamente sus semillas, para alimentar en su Creacion y niñez á la Alta California', is now left by the daughter province to the 'horrores de necesidad estremosa': the frontier presidial detachments have no víveres and the missions barely fed their own neophytes. The writer therefore begs the addressee to intercede with the Prelado and the Padres Misioneros 'de esa Diócesi' so that the troop of those missions receive 'el bastimento que nesesiten y algs Frasadas y demas de esta especie', warning that if the petition fails he will withdraw the soldiers, leave the missions abandoned, give the remaining missionaries leave to cross to the other side, and leave the neophytes 'en una libertad escandalosa', reporting at once to the superioridad and holding the addressee responsible. Savage then adds, on n14-n15: '(Nota. La comunicacion que antecede aparece trunca, sin fha ni direccion. El copista infiere por el carácter de la letra y la naturaleza del asunto que dicho Oficio pertenece á José Manuel Ruiz.)' followed by the page cite 'p. 43 á 46'. The attribution to Ruiz is Savage's own inference, not a signature.
