Verbatim heading: '1827 Agtº 6 Mont. / Comisario Herrera - á Comisº subaltº de Stª Bárbª - Derechos de importacion de licores fermentados y vinos, estrangeros.' English gloss: Herrera to the sub-commissary of Santa Barbara on import duties on foreign fermented spirits and wines. Substance: says that out of ignorance no duties had been charged here on foreign liquors beyond those exacted on other goods of foreign origin, but that the supreme dispositions of 13 and 28 Feb 1824 and 21 Feb 1826 having come to notice (copies enclosed) it becomes necessary to put them in practice at once, quoted verbatim: 'Cobrando al aguardte y demás bebidas de fermento estrangeras el 80 pº prevenido, en lugar de 25% sobre el aforo con arreglo al Arancel Genl, y en caso de querer los introductores esperar el resultado de la consulta, afianzarán como se manda, á satisfaccion del V. = El 70 pº al vino en los mismos términos; y todo ello sin perjuicio del derecho de avería, que de contado deberán pagar; y al 15% de internacion si la verificaren.' An exact account is to be kept so the Supreme Government can be informed.
