Departmental State Papers, Benicia (Commissary & Treasury), tomo I–V · BANC MSS C-A 40, document 92

'Falta de viveres pa la tropa.' Having absolutely no grain with which to ration the garrison he applied to Mission San Luis Rey and obtained nothing; those of San Diego 'totalmte cerraran las puertas por este mes' [will close their doors entirely for this month]. He has sent 'la recua de la Nacion a San Juan Capisto' and it should return loaded within the coming week, but what it brings will serve for only one rationing; thus he has neither provisions nor money with which to relieve the troops. He has advised the Comisario of everything but that functionary has given him no answer, and he (Carrillo) lays it before the Gefe Supr to clear his own responsibility.
