Heading “1828 = Mayo 10. = Angeles = Yncompª del Ayuntº” [= Incompetencia del Ayuntamiento]. On a memorial of Guillermo Cota the ayuntamiento orders the shackle struck off his son Miguel; the alcalde overrules it: “El alcalde Carrillo declara incompetente al ayuntº en asuntos judiciales y dedica á Cota á obras públicas.” = alcalde Carrillo declares the ayuntamiento incompetent in judicial matters and assigns Cota to public works. A key document on the limits of alcalde authority: an explicit 1828 ruling that judicial power sits with the alcalde, not the municipal corporation.

What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
