spans n277-n279. Chain: Ministerio de lo Interior 31 Dec → Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores 18th → British Minister Plenipotentiary's note of the 14th to José Mª Ortiz Monasterio, on the British subjects deported from California early in 1840 [Graham affair]. Their memorials value the property each left behind; the chief signer is 'Mr Lorenzo Charmichael que era dueño de una tienda en Monterey', who estimates his loss at 7,380 pesos, the others' claims far smaller. Asks instructions to Californian authorities to furnish the claimants every proof of their losses; the President orders no obstacle to the enquiry and protection within the law.

What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
