The Monterey jail-inspection report. The Tribunal's weekly *visita de cárcel* commission reports the capital's public jail held 5 prisoners — 'dos de los que llaman de razón, y 3 Neófitos, todos 5 mejicanos' — each constitutionally questioned per art. 59 of the Decreto de 1837 (p.549–50). Then a vivid dungeon description: the *calabozo* has 'sin piso alguno… The Tribunal's remedy (17 Jun): the *reos comunicados* be given 'cuando menos una hora de sol' daily (p.555–6); + it returns the *juicio sumario* against the criminal Santiago O'Brien for strict compliance (p.557); + the causa vs Juan González, juez de paz inferior (p.549–50).

The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
