Attempted-rape case, spans n322-n323. “Da cuenta de habérsele presentado María Montero contra Juan José Castro, acusándolo de haber intentado estuprarla.” She had asked Castro to escort her when she wished to embark; he led her by a stray road into a wood, dismounted her and tried to force her; to get free she promised to yield later, sealing it with a handshake and “su palabra de mujer”; reaching Alferez Prado, Capitan Fish, Shurk[?], Albisu and Gibian she denounced him, showing torn clothes and bruises. Questioned by Prado, Castro replied that “eran cosas que le sucedían á los hombres” and tried to strike her, prevented only by Prado.
