Departmental State Papers, San José, tomo IV+ · BANC MSS C-A 45, document 312

'Avisa que los neófitos que mataron los Yndios de Estudillo se encuentran aserrando maderas en la Sierra de San Francisco.' (reports that the neophytes who killed Estudillo's Indians are to be found sawing timber in the Sierra de San Francisco; Savage omits the personal á, so strictly the phrase is ambiguous, but the sense that the killers are alive and at work is required by the rest). Indian labour in the peninsula redwoods plus a homicide.
