Departmental State Papers, San José, tomo IV+ · BANC MSS C-A 45, document 363

Assault on two US citizens at Yerba Buena, venue moved for partiality. Gloss: a Yerba Buena patrol hunting deserters from the whalers anchored in the bay wounded Elliot Libbey, captain of the bark Tasso, and knocked down Natan Spear, both US citizens; since the offenders were closely related to the local authorities, impartiality was not expected, so Buelna, at the nearest point, was to take the información.
