Sal went to Monterey to rectify the 1790 tobacco accounts associated with 'Dn José Fran. de Ortega'; my first reading took 'cuya muerte tuvo la desgracia de presenciar' as Ortega's death — ⚠️ NOW KNOWN WRONG (Doc 180): Ortega was alive & commanding Loreto in 1793. The death Sal witnessed was someone else / a misread antecedent; do not cite an Ortega death here (p.96); + Argüello forwards San Blas-Comisario oficios opened by José Sandoval (p.97)

This entry is not citable as a document. The catalogue withdraws or qualifies it, so read the note above and follow it to the record that supersedes it. No citation is offered here on purpose.
The originals of these records burned in the 1906 San Francisco fire. What survives is Thomas Savage’s 1870s copy, and this page describes that copy.
