Pineda denounces two defaulters. Fr. Vicente Soto Mayor had pledged to the Sinaloa and Sonora commands 'que colgaria los habitos para empuñar la espada, y q. ponia todos sus intereses á disposicion del Gobo. p.a sostener la integridad territorial'; neither he nor Vicente Mejía kept the promise, and Mejía's 'infamia y cobardia en la Accion de S. José del Cabo' produced the death of the brave 1er Ten.te de la Armada Nal. D. Ant.o Mijares [= he would hang up his habit for the sword; Mejía's cowardice at San José killed Mijares]. Mejía resigned in the enemy's midst, declaring himself wholly unnerved.
