Refers to his official note of 22 Dec.: he had brought his force to the neighbourhood of La Paz to harass the enemy, but it 'es incapaz de sitio, solo permanecí sitiando (sic)' awaiting reply, while the force shrinks 'por las repetidas deserciones' — 11 so far, the worst that they carry off the arms. Asks that the authorities of Loreto and Comondú be exhorted to make their men permanent soldiers. The enemy allows no approach: 'luego que los ven, cuando ya estan las bombas encima'. He is expelling the people of the sacatal to La Paz as intriguers.
