Petition to build a California tannery. Sangrador, «Maestro Examinado de Curtidor y Zurrador, natural de los Reynos de Castilla», commissioned to Monterey by the Gobernador de Guadalajara «para ejercer el oficio de su arte», complains that after 4 months nothing has been set up «y sí le hacen trabajar en el de Zapatero»; «siendo una lástima de que S.M. pierda cada año, pasado de 150 cueros mayores, sin incluir ninguno de los menores» given the country's «aguas muy buenas, cortezas de roble, y encina» ideal for tanning; asks the Viceroy to order a *fábrica* [tannery] established, and that his accounts be settled yearly so he can aid his aged parents.
