The 1828 loyalty-oath cluster under the anti-Spanish decree of 20 Dec 1827 (art. 16): *Españoles por nacimiento* resident at Monterey swear «por Dios N.S. y los Santos Evangelios de sostener la Independencia de la República Mexicana» before the garrison officers to be permitted to remain — named: Estevan Munras, José [de] Amesti, Francisco Cáceres, José Joaquín de la Torre; witnesses incl. José Castro & Mariano G. Vallejo; síndico Antonio/Santiago Moreno. Estrada transmits the sworn oaths to the Comisario General; originals to the Ministerio de Relaciones (6 Dec 1828, Zamorano). Rich prosopography of the Monterey Spanish-merchant elite at the expulsion moment. → the Californio dossier + naturalization thread (cf. C-A 33).
