Formal charges agt Alcalde George Hyde (following the Mar-11 dossier, doc 104): that Hyde with quibbles consumed 2 months in his defense, availing himself of privilege the Gov. allowed to examine & cross-examine witnesses; the patience of the Council & Committee of citizens exhausted, most witnesses gone away; Council able to close testimony on first two charges. 1st: he has altered the No. of the lot on the map of the town hanging in the Alcalde's office (bearing signature of Jasper O'Farrell, town surveyor) rendering it valueless as a pub. doc. 2nd: he has antedated petitions for lots (one back to the magistracy of Blackburn/[Bartlett?]) & granted the same lot to other & later applicants. Hyde after consuming 2 months, jury very cool, told them he had advised them to trace, & justified himself by the bold assertion he had the right to commit these acts. 'Very believe it impossible to make a fair report by the board of councilmen — Messrs Howard & Glover never allowed one meeting for the investigation.' Parker declines signing more; Blackburn declines making a report
