VERBATIM HEADING: '1797. Junio 20. Sta Barb.a / Goycoechea a Borica. Uso de lana - propone se obliga a los vecinos a tejer sus frezadas etc' GLOSS: use of wool; he proposes the vecinos be compelled to weave their own blankets. SUBSTANCE: begins on gap leaf n261 and closes on gap leaf n262. The wool their sheep have produced for the vecinos of the pueblo de los Angeles has been used up in camas y frezadas made for them at the missions to supply the Indians who help them sow, and he is told these were worked a medias at the said missions. Quoting further: his arguments have not sufficed 'a persuadir a estos vecinos a que dediquen a sus hijos a aprender oficio de tejedores'; he finds no inclination in the padres de familias, and thinks only by obliging them to it will it be achieved, since he has already performed these offices personally while in the pueblo, having called a junta of the whole vecindario. Leaves the decision to Borica.
