Leaf-verified 2026-09-02, previously UNCATALOGUED (sat inside d278's declared span). Verbatim heading: 'Anuncio modo de publicar á los Indios la orden que les prohibe obedecer á los P.P. quando los manden a la otra benda en espedicion de buscar cristianos huidos ó á otro cualesquiera negocio.' Argüello went to the mission on the 16th with T.te de fragata Ramon Saavedra, the ingeniero extraordinario Alberto de Córdoba, alférez Raymundo Carrillo, two corporals of volunteers and two soldados de cuera, and before F. Martín Landaeta, F. José Espí and F. José Fernández addressed the assembled Indians through an interpreter: «hablé a toda la Indiada que estaba junta por medio de buen interprete, intimidandoles repetidas vezes, con bastante claridad y materialidad las superiores ordenes de V.S. antecitadas, y preguntandoles si me habían entendido bien me respondieron todas de una voz que si». He then warned the padres of «las revoluciones que podía haber en la mision de S.n Jose» and of their responsibility «á Dios y al Rey»; Landaeta replied that the Indians «fueron voluntarios y no despachados por ellos». Closes «suplico a V.S. me declare este punto para caminar con el acierto que deseo»
