VERBATIM HEADING: «1797. Mayo 29. S.n Fr.co / Arguello á Borica. Buena cria de ovejas merinas en S.n Fr.co - lanas - etc.» SUBSTANCE: he has noticed no great difference between the sheep of San Francisco and those of other parts of the province in kind, but yes in quality — those of San Francisco being better because they are of the merino race, and their wool free of grease «porque duermen afuera de corral». He would gladly buy a hundred at a fair price to propagate the breed, but P. Martín de Landaeta answered that he could not sell them, not having asked México for cloth for the Indians and being obliged to deliver blankets to the presidio.
