Body verbatim: 'Le previene q.e en vista de escasez de papel, ponga en un mismo oficio varios asuntos, espresando al márgen y principio de cada uno, la materia, y dice recibo su nota en q.e le avisa haberlo dado á reconocer como Comand.te de Armas de Presidios de N.C.' [= he directs him that, in view of the scarcity of paper, he put several matters in one and the same official letter, stating in the margin and at the head of each one the subject, and he acknowledges receipt of his note advising that he had had him recognized as Commandant of Arms of the Presidios of New California]. Note this is the administrative origin of the marginal-subject convention, and it dates Alberni's recognition as Comandante de Armas to before 18 March 1800.
